Kilcreggan – Cake & Coffee Denied

It was one of those days when you seem to be constantly battling into the wind and swell, regardless of the direction you are travelling. Setting off from the Kirk Brae slipway, I headed into the wind and swell. By the time I'd reached Rhu narrows, the wind was coming at me from the south east and yet by the time I had made it to Rosneath point, where I thought I would get a good push from behind, I didn't. To boot it was all rather choppy and there was much more wind than forecast.
I had called KHM at Faslane to let them know of my intentions before setting off. By the time I'd reached Kilcreggan, I heard KHM on the radio instructing ships to keep a good look out for me at Rhu Narrows. He obviously thinks I am a much slower paddler. I ignored the urge too call KHM on the radio and tell them I was already at Kilcreggan.

The big dissapointment was the cafe at Kilcreggan was closed. No coffee and cake!! Nooooo! So I set off back home again, into the ever present wind and swell. It was very heavy going at times. No sooner had I reached Portkil Point, my phone started ringing... I asked the caller to hold whilst I made my way to the beach. It was all too jiggly about to take the call at sea.
Back through Rhu Narrows and the wind had changed direction again, so it was once again against me. At least the swell in the loch was small and less troublesome.

Fab!
